One can apply for any close family member (sibling, child, spouse or common law partner, grandparent, grandchild, niece, nephew, uncle, aunt).
 
Also, parents of children under the age of 18 are eligible for additional credits.
 
Even a deceased family member is eligible for the DTC, as long as the deceased was alive within the past ten years.
